Full Description
ST 800283. Settlement remains of Milton-on-Stour lie 240 yds south west of the church and comprise at least four long closes 50 yds long and up to 40 yds wide, bounded by banks 1ft high. At the northern ends of the closes are small plots, almost square, with traces of scarped platforms. Excavations by the Gillingham History Society in 1965-6 revealed, in the westernmost plot, two courses of a well-built limestone rubble wall, 1 1/2ft. thick; associated pottery was of the 12th and 13th centuries. <1>
No distinct traces of settlement at grid reference ST 800283, but further west at ST 796285 there appears to be evidence of closes or rectangular enclosures, which may be associated with desertion. <2>
