Full Description
A group of barrows and mounds in Seven Barrow Plantation: (2)
'D' - (SY 64759242). Oval mound, 23ft by 30ft and 2ft high. (RCHM No 12c; Grinsell's Bradford Peverell bowl barrow No 10). <2> <4>
The area in which these barrows lie is so densely covered with trees and undergrowth that it could only be penetrated in part. Mounds 'D','E','F','G','L', and 'M' appear to be bowl barrows and 'C' a long barrow. <3>
An unusual barrow group situated near the crest of a broad south-west spur. The undergrowth which formerly obscured the group and limited investigation has been removed and the north-west half of the area completely cleared of woodland. This part is regularly used as a cattle pen with the consequence that severe damage is incurred by their trampling, especially to the lower monuments. See plan and ground photographs.
'D'. SY 64749242. A mound 10.0 metres across and 0.5 metres high on the south-east side within the plantation. No ditch is visible and the south-east quadrant appears to have been trenched. The north-west half has been trampled down, but a circular form can be detected, indicating a bowl barrow. There is however a suggestion of a flattish topped 9.0 metres wide rise extending for a further 6.0 metres towards barrow 'G' to the north-west. It is barely 0.2 metres high and could be natural (not depicted on M.S.D.) Barrows surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <5>
Part of the barrows and mounds in Seven Barrow Plantation; 12 in number and they are much overgrown. Has an oval form 23 by 30 ft. and 2ft. High. <2>
This barrow was 9 paces in diameter and 2 feet in height. <4>
