Summary

A banked field boundary to the northwest of Providence Cottage, Broadwindsor, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s and on the latest Lidar imagery. The boundary may fossilise one of a series of former medieval strip fields, suggesting a late medieval or post medieval date. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Full Description

A banked field boundary to the northwest of Providence Cottage, Broadwindsor, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1) and on the latest Lidar imagery (2). The boundary appears to fossilise one of a series of former medieval strip fields, although the boundary itself is likely to be at least late or post medieval in date. The site is still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
