Summary

A series of linear scarps, possibly forming a system of cultivation terraces of medieval origin, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948, to the south west of Little Pitt, Pitt Farm, Whitchurch Canonicorum. The features run roughly along the contour and were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. They have been mainly plough-levelled and only slight scarps still visible as an extant earthworks on recent Google Earth imagery.

Full Description

A series of linear scarps, possibly forming a system of cultivation terraces of medieval origin, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948, to the south west of Little Pitt, Pitt Farm, Whitchurch Canonicorum <2>. The features run roughly along the contour and include a unit of ridge and furrow described separatedly in MDO38973. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. The features have been mainly plough-levelled and only slight scarps still visible as an extant earthworks on recent Google Earth imagery <3>.
