A post medieval extractive pit, 42m across, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 to the north west of Birdsmoorgate. The feature is marked as a sand pit on the OS 1st edition map. It was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

A post medieval extractive pit, 42m across, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 to the north west of Birdsmoorgate (1). The feature is marked as a sand pit on the OS 1st edition map (2). It was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP and is still visible as an extant earthwork on recent Google Earth imagery (3).
