Summary
An extensive series of post medieval extractive pits are located on Blackdown Hill, spread over an area of20 hectares. Some are marked as Old Sand Pit and Gravel Pit of the OS 1st edition map and others as Pit (dis) on the 1:10,000 scale map. The features are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery, they were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

An extensive series of post medieval extractive pits are located on Blackdown Hill, spread over an area of 20 hectares. Some are marked as Old Sand Pit and Gravel Pit of the OS 1st edition map and others as Pit (dis) on the 1:10,000 scale map (1-2). The features are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery (3-4), they were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
