Full Description
A series of trackways are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 running roughly northwest-southeast across Barnsfield Heath (1). The features are considered likely to be of post medieval or early 20th century date. There is evidence for wartime military activity on the surrounding heathland ssuggesting a possible military origin for some or all of these trackways. To the south they pre-date a military facility potentially associated with Bournemouth Hurn airfield, suggesting thay are pre-1945 in origin.
They are still visible on the 2014 DCC vertical coverage (2). The site was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
