Full Description
Banked and ditched field boundaries in fields to the southwest of Berry Hill, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The boundaries are rectilinear in form and clearly sub-divide once longer linear fields shown on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The form and alignment of the boundaries indicate a probable post medieval or early twentieth century origin, probably associated with sub-division of former medieval strip fields within a larger area of medieval open field.
The linear boundaries are still located within agricultural fields and remain visible as earthworks and cropmarks on current Google Earth imagery (3). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
