Monument record MDO39643 - Post medieval or early 20th century field boundaries, Throop, Bournemouth

Banked field boundaries in fields to the west of Throop, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are probably post medieval or early twentieth centuiry in origin and were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.

Banked field boundaries in fields to the west of Throop, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The boundaries are rectilinear in form and clearly sub-divide once longer linear fields shown on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The form and alignment of the boundaries indicate a probable post medieval or early twentieth century origin, probably associated with sub-division of former medieval strip fields within a larger area of medieval open field. The linear boundaries are under housing development on current Google Earth imagery (3). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
