Full Description
A historic banked field boundary and banked and ditched trackway to the southeast of Hurn Court are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The linear banked field boundary measures around 6m to 7m wide and aligns south southwest to north northeast. It is located on the southern edge of the landscaped grounds of Hurn Court and aligns with the historic field pattern in this area, although it does not feature on the OS 1st Edition map. It may have a medieval or later origin.
To the north of the field boundary a ditched and banked trackway extends eastwards on the same alignment. The line of the trackway is broken by the historic field boundary and a small wooded copse and pond on its east side. A second ditched linear feature in the adjacent field may be a continuation of the trackway. The trackway may be post medieval in origin, although an earlier date is also possible.
The features are clearly visible as earthworks under pasture on Google Earth imagery of 2012 (2). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
