Full Description

In the S.W. of the parish (757030) are the massive risers of two cross-contour strip lynchets. These can only be explained as part of the former open fields of Melcombe Horsey (see ST 70SW38 p. 172), whence it appears that the parish boundary must have been changed at some period. <1> Visible on RAF air photographs. <2> Two cross contour strip lynchets. 'A' - ST 75680300. Appears to be an adaption of a natural north- south scarp rising from ground level up to 7.0m. high. Visible for 150.0m; the south end extends into a dense conifer plantation. Mutilated by quarrying. 'B' - ST 75760300. A minor lynchet 1.1m. high, extending north south for 180.0m. on OS air photographs <3.1>. <3>.
