Monument record MDO39852 - Possible prehistoric or historic trackways, Gussage All Saints

A series of ditched linears visible as cropmarks in a field to the northeast of Amen Corner, Gussage All Saints, on a 1989 aerial photograph may be associated with prehistoric or historic trackways, although an agricultural origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A series of ditched linears visible as cropmarks in a field to the northeast of Amen Corner, Gussage All Saints on a 1989 aerial photograph (1). The linear features are predominantly aligned north to south, with a few on a east to west axis. One longer north south aligned section extends north towards a possible enclosure (MDO39853), whose rectilinear form suggests a possible Iron Age or Romano-British origin. The features are also located around 280m east of a probable Iron Age or Romano British enclosure and field system (MDO39849). It is possible the ditched linears are trackways that form part of a wider late prehistoric settled landscape, although a later historic date for these is also possible. Alternatively the features may be agricultural in origin. The features are within a modern cropping field but are not visible on later available vertical aerial photographs. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
