Summary

An extractive pit is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 at Stephens Castle, Verwood. It lies to the south of the larger 20th century workings described in MDO39759 and is considered to be the remains of 19th or 20th century extracton. The site was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

An extractive pit is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 at Stephens Castle, Verwood (1). It lies to the south of the larger 20th century workings described in MDO39759 and is considered to be the remains of 19th or 20th century extracton. The site is still extant under scrub vegetation (2) and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
