Monument record MDO40036 - Late Bronze Age settlement, Lower Eweleaze, Puddletown
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A linear feature seen as a cropmark (AP3) on aerial photographs during preliminary work in advance of construction of the A35 Tolpuddle to Puddletown Bypass, and excavated in 1996. Excavation revealed colluvial deposits containing abraded Bronze Age and Romano-British pottery and worked flint of probable Neolithic and Late Bronze Age date. The colluvial sealed a number of features including a ditch, and a number of curvilinear gullies, pits and postholes. One pit [1130] contained Late Bronze Age pottery, but none of the other features could be dated. Interpreted as part of a Late Bronze Age settlement.
