SU 0249 1014. A small rectilinear enclosure of uncertain date is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, and has been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The enclosure is defined by a single ditch 7.1m x 5.8m, with a gap, possibly an entrance, in the eastern side. Within the enclosure is a row of 3 oval pits or small features.
The enclosure is likely to be Prehistoric or Roman, probably associated with ritual or funerary activity. Its form strongly resembles an Iron Age square barrow, and it is located between the Great Barrow (SU 01 SW 106) and the South Henge (SU 01 SW 101) in the Knowlton monument complex. Another similar enclosure or square barrow lies 20m to the north (SU 01 SW 212). <1, 1.1>
A small sub-rectangular enclosure on the southern edge of the Knowlton Barrow Group is visible as a cropmark on 1990s aerial photographs. <2, 3>
The feature comprises a 7.4m by 5.6m enclosure with a possible entrance on its northeast side. Within the enclosure are three possible sub-circular ditched features, possibly pits. A second similar enclosure is located 13.5m to the north (MDO40061).
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
