Monument record MDO40071 - Bronze Age barrow, Knowlton, Woodlands

A sub-circular cropmark on the eastern edge of the Knowlton Barrow Group is faintly visible on 1990s aerial photographs. The feature may represent a Bronze Age barrow. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

SU 0275 1043. Eight Bronze Age round barrows are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs and have been mapped by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. The barrows are located between SU 0275 1033 and SU 0275 1053; each is defined by a single circular ditch with diameters ranging from 15.7m to 28.6m. They are part of the extensive barrow cemetery known as the Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. (1-2) A sub-circular features on the eastern edge of the Knowlton Barrow Group is faintly suggested as a cropmark on 1990s aerial photographs (1). A ditched sub-circular feature was digitally mapped at this location by the Knowlton Circles Project and this cropmark may correspond with that feature.The feature is indistinct but measures around 13.3m in diameter and may represent a Bronze Age barrow. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
