Summary

A sub-oval ditched enclosure in St Giles's Park is visible as a cropmark on a 1996 aerial photographs. The feature is presumed to represent a possible Neolithic long barrow. Broadly orientated north-south, it comprises an elongated oval, with rounded ends and straight, diverging sides, the broader end being to the south. The eastern side is less distinct as a cropmark feature. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Recent aerial photography reveals the cropmark of a probable Neolithic long barrow site, visible at SU 0401 1168. <1-3> A sub-oval ditched enclosure in St Giles's Park is visible as a cropmark on a 1996 aerial photograph <4>. The enclosure is 66m long by 28.9m wide with a broadly 2m wide outer ditch. The northeast corner of the enclosure is obscured by trees. The feature is presumed to represent a possible Neolithic long barrow. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
