Full Description

A group of amorphous cropmarks are visible on aerial photographs in the corner of a modern field to the north of Matterley Cottages (1). The features have previously been interpreted as the site of a Bronze Age round barrow (Knowlton Circles Project - English Heritage) but they are considered more likely to be an extractive hollow with surrounding spoil heaps, probably of historic origin. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
