A post medieval extractive pit to the west of Wimborne St Giles is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery (1 and 2). The extractive pit is sub-oval in form and measures 36.4m by 49m. It is recorded as 'old chalk pit' on the oS 1st Edition map (3). The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
