Full Description

Banked retilinear earthworks to the northwest of Manor House, Wimborne St Giles, are visible on current Lidar imagery (1). The features divide a long narrow historic enclosure with slightly curvilinear boundaries, present on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The enclosure is probably part of a field pattern associated with Manor House and probably medieval in origin. The features run on a southwest to northeast axis and align with adjacent historic boundaries (2). They are considered to be historic field boundaries of medieval or post-medieval origin, possibly even relict medieval strip field within an area of former medieval open field. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
