Full Description

Ditched linear cultivation marks at Purewell are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The linear features are contained with a field whose historic boundaries are present on the OS 1st Edition map. The features run broadly parallel to each other, around 5m to 5.5m apart and with a slightly irregular form. They may represent medieval ridge and furrow, although a later origin is also possible. Current Google Earth imagery shows that the features now underlie 20th century housing development and are no longer visible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
