Full Description
Ditched linear cultivation marks at Purewell are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The linear features are contained with fields whose historic boundaries are present on the OS 1st Edition map. The features run broadly parallel to each other, around 4.7m apart and are fairly regular in form. They may represent medieval ridge and furrow, although a later, post medieval, origin is also possible.
Current Google Earth imagery shows that the features now underlie a 20th century roundabout on the A35 and are no longer visible.
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
