Full Description

Ditched linear earthworks in fields at Purewell are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The features are situated within fields whose historic boundaries are present on the OS 1st Edition map. They comprise broadly parallel ditches between 7m and 10m apart and aligned with the adjacent historic field boundaries. The features are considered to represent cultivation marks or drainage features of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is also possible. The features are no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
