Full Description
Ditched linear and curvilinear features at Burton are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2).
The features divide historic enclosures present on the OS 1st Edition map (3). These enclosures are irregular in form, often narrow, and with curvilinear boundaris indicating a possible medieval origin, although a later date is possible. The ditched linear features that divide these enclosures are in places regular and rectilinear in form, in others more curvilinear and irregular. They are considered to be historic field boundaries of possible medieval and/or post medieval origin. Some of the more closely spaced linear features may incorporate drainage features.
The site is largely under housing on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. Some features in the southwest corner of the site are located within a 20th century playing field but are also not visible on current Google Earth imagery. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
