Ditched linear earthworks on the Avon river floodplain at Christchurch are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are presumed to be historic trackways of probable post medieval date and were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Ditched linear earthworks on the Avon river floodplain at Christchurch are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The features cross a number of historic enclosures present on the OS 1st Edition map, crossing between a post medieval gravel pit (MDO) and incorporating part of a historic trackway also prsent on the OS 1st Edition map (2). They are also presumed to be historic trackways of probable post medieval date. The site is under a 20th century water works on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
