Full Description
Banked and ditched linear earthworks on Coward's Marsh, Christchurch, are visible on 1940s and 1950s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1-3).
The features comprise narrow banks and ditches of rectilinear and curvilinear form, which align with and correspond to adjacent historic boundaries present on the OS 1st Edition map and possibly medieval in origin. The features are also considered to be historic field boundaries, some of which may be medieval in origin but some of the more rectilinear boundaries may be later and post medieval in date.
The majority of features remain visible, albeit faintly in some cases, on current Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
