Summary

A modern water tank on the corner of Tuckton Road and Carbery Avenue, Bournemouth, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is presumed to be a wartime water storage facility for use in the case of air raids and incendiary fires. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A modern water tank on the corner of Tuckton Road and Carbery Avenue, Bournemouth, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The feature comprises a hollow circular structure 11.6m wide with 0.3m wide outer walls. There is an internal rectangular 2.25m by 2.55m feature located against its southeast side. The two features are presumed to be part of a wartime water storage facility for use in the case of air raids and incendiary fires. The site was demolished and grassed over by 1957 (2). The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
