Full Description

Banked linear features in a field to the east of Stone Farm are visible on 1940's aerial photographs (1). The features comprise one banked curvilinear which is slightly irregular in form and one more regular banked linear, both broadly parallel to each, 56.5m apart, and aligned on a historic field boundary to the southwest. The features sub-divide a field whose boundaries are present on the OS 1st Edition map and whose curvilinear form suggests a possible medieval origin (2). The features are considered to also be historic field boundaries of possible medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. The site is within larger ploughed and cropped fields that have seen significant boundary removal on current Google Earth imagery. The features are still visible; particulary on 2009 and 2014 Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
