Summary

A linear scarped feature to the east of Leigh Common, Colehill, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature may be a historic field boundary or lynchet of possible medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A linear scarped feature to the east of Leigh Common, Colehill, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The feature is slightly curvilinear in form and around 102m long, extending east from the corner of a small irregular historic enclosure present on the OS 1st Edition map towards the edge of the Southampton and Dorchester Railway Line and possibly truncated by its construction. The feature may be a historic field boundary or lynchet of possible medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. The feature is still within open fields but no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
