Full Description
Two areas of cultivation marks at Canford Bottom, Colehill, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise parallel ridges set around 4m apart and interset by 1.6m wide ditches. The features occupy irregular historic enclosures present on the OS 1st Edition map and whose boundaries may be medieval in origin; the southernmost of the two historic enclosures may be of later, perhaps post medieval, date. The features are considered to be historic cultivation marks of possible post medieval narrow ridge and furrow, although an earlier origin is possible.
The site is under what is now the south side of Farriers and Harness Closes on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
