Full Description
A circular walled roofless struture on waste ground at Colehill is visible on 1950s aerial photographs. It is glimpsed on 1940s aerial photographs beneath trees (2).
The feature is 8.7m in diameter, with a narrow extrusion on its south side and a small square 3m by 2.6m roofless structure adjoining on its north side. The function and date of the structure is unknown but it shares some similarities to structures recorded on street corners in Christchurch that may be early 20th century water tanks, possibly used during the Second World War as a water storage facility for use in the case of air raids and incendiary fires (MDOs 40579-40586).
The site is under housing and trees on Glynville Close on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
