Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit on the south side of Smugglers Lane, Colehill, is visible on 1950s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a 36.6m by 21m teardrop-shaped depression with a ditched entranceway into this from the west. The site is recorded as a gravel pit on the OS 1st Edition map where it is a smaller feature located between two historic trackwys to its north and south (2).
The site is under trees on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
