Full Description
A semi-circular scarped depression on the east side of Greenhill Road, Colehill, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature is 31m deep by 38m wide and is open to the northwest. It is recorded (but not named) on the OS 1st Edition map where it is shown to contain four buildings and a trackway (2). It is located on the opposite side of the road from a large post medieval brickworks (MDO23465). The feature appears man-made rather than natural in origin and may be a post medieval extractive pit, possibly associated with the brickworks to the west. The buildings may be those of a small post-medieval or early 19th century farmstead but may alternatively be buildings also associated with the brickworks, although this is not certain.
The site isdeveloped as a car parking area and buildings on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
