Monument record MDO40868 - Post medieval drainage system, High Hall, Pamphill

Banked and ditched linear features in fields to the northeast of High Hall are visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery. The features are situated along the west side of the River Allan and are presumed to be a post medieval drainage system. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Banked and ditched linear features in fields to the northeast of High Hall are visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1 and 2). The features comprise a series of narrow and preominantly rectilinear ditches and banks situated along the west side of the River Allan. The majority of these features border a large rectilinear drainage channel recorded on the Os 1st Edition map, with the remainder bordering the river channel itself (3). They are presumed to form part of an extensive post medieval drainage system along the river valley floor. The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery and the features remain faintly visible.They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project; the large drainage channel recorded on the OS 1st Edition map was also plotted to give coherence to the suite of features relating to it.
