Full Description

A ditched linear feature in fields to the northeast of Stanbridge is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The feature is narrow and curvilinear in form and runs from east to west across the centre of two irregular historic enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map before turning to the northwest to cross the southwest corner of a third (2). The curvilinear boundaries of all three enclosures are likely to be predominantly medieval in origin, possibly with some post medieval additions. The feature is presumed to be a post medieval trackway. The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery, although the feature is no longer visible; its western end corresponds with a modern access road. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
