Full Description

A banked rectilinear feature to the south of Grange is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The feature is narrow and rectilinear in form. It is situated within a large irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, where it runs southwest to northeast between the corner points of adjacent historic enclosures to sub-divide this (2). The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible. The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery, although with some boundary and land-use change since 1946. The feature appears to have been superceded by a later 20th century boundary fence and is no longer visible. Its northeast end is under the garden of a 20th century house. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
