Full Description

Banked and ditched linear features to the south and southeast of Pig Oak are visible on aerial photographs (1 and 2). The features comprise rectilinear and curvilinear ditches and banks that continue the sub-division of the historic pattern of enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map to the south and southeast of Pig Oak and on the same alignment (3). The majority of features are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2), with some additionally visible as cropmarks in 2000 aerial photographs (3). The features are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of predominantly post medieval date but with some features potentially earlier in origin. The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery, with significant boundary removal since 1946 to form two large modern enclosures. Some features are visible as cropmarks in the year 2005 (4). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
