Structures and roadways consistent with a probable World War Two ammunitions depot at Uddens Park are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise a series of linked roaways extending west and north off the main approach to the former Uddens House. A series of identical three celled sub-square structures 17.4m by 16.4m are situated at intervals on both sides of the roadways. Additional features include a row of buildings or building platforms in the north part of the site, along with some isolated buildings to the north and east of the former Uddens House, all of which may be administrative buildings or accommodation blocks assocaited with the site. There are also a number of dispersed circular features that may be water storage containers as well as a number of narrow rectilinear banked and ditched features that may be internal footpaths, or possibly raised pipelines. These features may alternatively be older boundaries associated with the former parkland around Uddens House (MDO40924) but this is less certain.
1960s aerial photographs show the gradual deterioration and loss of the site under grass (2 and 3).
The site is open fields and woodland on current Google Earth imagery. Some of the features remain visible; some of the bases to former structure and part of the roadline, but the majority of the site appears demolished. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
