Full Description

Ditched curvilinear features in a field to the southeast of Poplar Copse are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The features are narrow and curvilinear in form. They are situated within a large irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose boundaries are likely to be predominantly medieval in origin (2). The features are set broadly parallel to each other on a southeast to northwest alignment, which corresponds with the eastern enclosure boundary (1 and 2). The features may be historic field boundaries of possible medieval origin, perhaps indicating former medieval strip field boundaries. The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery; the features are still visible in 2009 (3). They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
