Full Description
Ditched linear features to the northeast of Petersham Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are predominantly narrow and rectilinear in form. The pattern of historic enclosure within which these features sit includes field boundaries that are irregular and curvilinear in form, suggesting a probable medieval origin, but with some straighter rectilinear boundaries sub-dividing these, indicating some post medieval re-organisation (2). The rectilinear character of the features suggests these are historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible.
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery, but with significant historic boundary removal. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
