Full Description

A banked curvilinear feature in a field to the north of Grange Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The feature is aligned east to west across the centre of an irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, and whose curvilinear boundaries indicate a possible medieval origin (3). The feature may also be a historic field boundary of potentially medieval date. Cropmarks visible to the south of the feature on a 1995 aerial photograph (3) suggest the feature may closely respect a late prehistoric field system (MDO40987). The juxtaposition of this feature with the possible field system is interesting, suggesting that they were either contemporary or that both may have been intervisible at some point in time. The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery. The feature is faintly visible in the year 2012 (4). It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
