Monument record MDO41026 - Possible modern anti tank obstacle,The Leaze, Wimborne Minster

Please read our .

Summary

Two ditched linear features on the Leaze, Wimborne Minster, are visible as parchmarks on 1940s aerial photographs. The features form two sides of a rectilinear enclosure and may be fenced, possibly with barbed wire fencing. The features are thought likely to be modern in origin, possibly associated with wartime military defences. A row of anti-tank cubes (MDO41027) are visible to the northeast of the linear features, and these appear to respect the Rectory on the south side of King Street. The ditched enclosure is probably associated with these, perhaps forming an anti-tank obstacle or part of a wartime defence line - or possibly protecting the Rectory building if this was commissioned for some military purpose (conjectured). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

A row of anti-tank cubes (MDO41027) are visible to the northeast of the linear features, and these appear to respect the Rectory on the south side of King Street. The ditched enclosure is probably associated with these, perhaps forming an anti-tank obstacle or part of a wartime defence line (see MDOs….) - or possibly protecting the Rectory building if this was commissioned for some military purpose (conjectured).
