Full Description

Banked linear features to the northeast of Park Farm are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The features comprise a 72m section of curving bank that extends east between the corner of a historic field boundary recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and an access road to Parks Farm, also recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2). A 31m section of bank continues east from the access road; this banked feature is tapered at its eastern end indicating probable truncation or degradation. The banked features effectively forms a small lozenge shaped enclosure with the historic field boundary to their north. The features may be a historic field boundary, whose slightly sinuous form indicates a possible medieval origin. The features are situated either side of the suggested boundary of Leigh Park medieval deer park (see MDO5441). The site is still partially open fields on current Google Earth imagery but the land to the west of the access road is redeveloped as a house and gardens. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
