Monument record MDO41069 - Probable post medieval drainage system, Knighton Farm Golf Course, Poole

Extensive banked and ditched linear features at what is now Knighton Farm Golf Course are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are presumed to be part of an extensive post medieval drainage system. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Extensive banked and ditched linear features at what is now Knighton Farm Golf Course are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1-4). The features comprise long curvilinear sections of ditch, some of which are edged by corresponding sections of bank. Additional shorter ditched linears offset these at various angles. Some of the linears correspond with large drainage channels recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and the features appear to generally form one large coherent system of drainage across the neck of land between two sections of River Stour (5). The features are presumed to be part of an extensive post medieval drainage system. The site is largely part of Knighton Farm Golf Course on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
