Summary

A ditched linear feature at Canford Magna is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary of probable post medieval date although an earlier origin is possible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

A ditched linear feature at Canford Magna is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The feature is narrow and rectilinear in form and it sub-divides a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose slightly sinuous boundaries may be medieval in origin (2). The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary of probable post medieval date although an earlier origin is possible The site is a sports pitch on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
