Summary

Full Description
Ditched linear features to the northeast of Ashington are visible on aerial photographs (1).
The features are narrow and rectilinear in form. They are situated within a very large historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, the boundaries of which are almost certainly medieval in origin; the enclosure is probably part of an area of former medieval open field (2). The features align with a series of later rectilinear field boundaries that sub-divide the larger enclosure and are presumed to also be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval to early 20th century date.
The site is still fields on current Google Earth imagery but with some modern boundary change. The features are not visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
