Full Description
Ditched and banked linear features on the southwest side of Broadstone Golf Course are visible on aerial photographs (1 and 2).
The features comprise sections of narrow rectilinear and curvilinear banks and ditches that form a series of partial and irregular enclosures. The OS 1st Edition map shows this area as unenclosed heathland (3).
The features may be historic field boundaries of post medieval date, although an earlier origin is possible. They may be features associated with post medieval intake on poorer ground, which was typically seasonal or short-term in nature depending on the pressures on better agricultural land.
The site is still part of Broadstone Golf Course on current Google Earth imagery and some features remain visible. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
