Summary
A large extractive pit Canford Magna is visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is situated to the southwest of another even larger extractive pit, possibly known as Canford Pit. This feature may be the one known as Harvey's Pit as it is accessed off Harvey's Road. These pits are not shown on the OS 1st Edition map so may be late 19th century to early 20th century in date. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description
A large extractive pit Canford Magna is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprises a series of irregular scarps and banks extending over an area up to 240m long by up to 150m wide. A n access road enters the site from the east, off Harvey Road and additional roadways are visible within the site. A small rectangular 4.5m by 4.8m roofed building is visible in the southern area of the site.
The feature is situated to the southwest of another even larger extractive pit (MDO41123), possibly known as Canford Pit. This pit may be known as Harvey's Pit, being accessed off Harvey's Road. Neither pit is shown on the OS 1st Edition map so they may be late 19th century to early 20th century in date.
The site is developed as housing on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible.They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
