Full Description
A ditched linear feature to the southwest of Knighton is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature is narrow and rectilinear in form and it sub-divides a long irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and whose slightly sinuous boundaries may be medieval in origin (2).
The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary of probable post medieval to early modern date. The feature bounds the south side of a temporary wartime military camp (MDO41137) but is thought to pre-date this site, although it is possibble they are related.
The site is open fields on current Google Earth imagery but the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
