Full Description
Ditched curvilinear features on Knighton Heath are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are part of a wider network of similar features on Knighton Heath presumed to be historic trackways of probable post medieval date. The trackways in this location - the north eastern area of Knighton Heath as it was in 1945 - link between a series of post medieval extractive pits. They are quite substantial features and in places there are suggestions of wheel ruts, suggesting vehicular use. This indicates probable use into the 20th century and perhaps a purpose linked more specifically to extractive activity I this area.
The site is under modern housing development on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
